Bulk Carrier Boarded By Pirates in Gulf of Guinea

Reporting indicates that that the MV ROWAYTON EAGLE has been boarded by pirates 200 NM of the coast of Accra, Ghana at around 0430 UTC, Jan 30. The incident is ongoing. The crew are reportedly mustered in the citadel. She was en route from Canary Islands to Lagos Nigeria.

AIS tracking suggests the vessel in question was stationary since January 27 and is now underway. Presently, it is unclear why the vessel was stationary. No further information is available at this time, awaiting further confirmations and updates.



As per Dryad Global, a maritime security firm, this the 7th offshore incident this year and the third recorded offshore boarding. Total incidents throughout West Africa in 2020 showed a partial increase of 12% on those of 2019.
