EPIRB stands for Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon. It is a device that is used in emergency situations to alert search and rescue services to the location of a distressed vessel or aircraft. EPIRBs are typically carried onboard ships, aircraft, and life rafts and are activated when a vessel sinks or becomes disabled, or when an aircraft crashes or is forced to make an emergency landing.
