The government of California has taken a series of steps designed to alleviate supply chain bottlenecks. Leasing six off-dock properties to store shipping containers is the latest one. It was announced on February 15th that the National warehouse marketplace Chunker had leased these sites, with a standing capacity of some 20,000 containers, from the California Department of General Services. They are hired for an initial term of one year and an option of a second-year extension. The six sites, located east of San Francisco and northeast of Los Angeles, include three armouries, two fairgrounds, and a former prison. Brad Wright, CEO of Chunker, stated that container storage is majorly responsible for congestion and a nationwide supply chain crisis. Access to state property will store 20,000 more containers, freeing up a significant amount of space. It will aid in an undisturbed flow of imports and exports.
