Waiting to be Repatriated, Filipina Crew Member Aboard Harmony of the Seas Commits Suicide

A 28-year old Filipina crew member aboard a Royal Caribbean ship, Harmony of the Seas was found dead on the balcony of her room.

The Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin tweeted that a 28-year old female mariner committed suicide in her cabin as she was waiting to be repatriated back to the Philippines.


The deceased crew member Ms. Mariah Jocson was employed as an assistant waiter aboard the ship that is currently docked in Bridgetown Port in Barbados.


She was last seen going to her room at about 3 a.m. on June 9, Tuesday.

A muster call was made and it was discovered that she was not present. A check of her room was made by the ship security and her body was discovered on the balcony of her room. A medical doctor pronounced her dead.

“We are tartly reminded that Filipino resilience is no excuse to stretch them to breaking point. Di sila goma; tao sila,” the Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin said in another tweet.


 According to the report from the Royal Barbados Police Force, police are carrying out investigations into the circumstances which resulted in the death of Ms. Jocson.
